About Lars Metal Arts
Copper, stainless steel, brass and titanium are some of the non-ferrous metals Keith Chew uses to create and fabricate his doors, back-splashes and other artwork. Known for his unique colorations (patination) of primarily copper he will cut, layer, press and pound metals into impressive front doors or compositions for walls. Landscapes, wildlife or contemporary commissions begin with Keith's sketches of your imaginative requirements for vertical surfaces.
Bio
Keith Chew was born in London's East End in 1940. While his widowed mother and four siblings endured wartime blitz and post-war privations, the boy dreamed of living in America. He left home at 15 and traveled the world as a deck hand on merchant and sailing ships eventually landing in Scandinavia. Keith became a Certified Norwegian Ski Instructor (Norske Skilaerer) and it was that talent that finally brought him to the United States in 1968.
Living his American dream, Keith established his own furniture business and, with his wife Nancy, became a respected designer of functional art (furnishings) and interiors. Always self-educated, his passions have focused on using metals to create exceptional applications that often celebrate his love of Colorado, nature, wildlife, color and texture.
Keith Chew named his company Lars Metal Arts in honor of his son, Lars Petter, who was killed in Iraq while in service of the American Army.
